A Simple Gift

By Mieren

“Party!” Kuwabara yelled loudly, pumping one fist into the air.

“I’ve got the sake!” Yuusuke added, his customary grin splitting his face in half.

            “Hn.  Ahou.”

The other three warriors watched silently as Hiei disappeared through the window, disappearing easily.  Only a blur in their vision allowed them to know which way he had gone.

“Perhaps we shouldn’t have suggested a party in front of him,” Kurama said sadly.  “After all, he never got a chance to tell her.”

“But he said he didn’t want her to know,” Kuwabara started.  He trailed off when he saw the sad look on the youko’s face.  “I thought that protecting Yukina was the only thing that was important to him.”

“Should we look for him?” Yuusuke asked uncertainly.  Kurama shook his head.

“He’ll want to be left alone.  It’s just his way.”

“Shimatta,” Kuwabara growled, flopping back into the nearest chair.  “Well, we got all of this so we could relax after a hard day.  I don’t know about you, but I’m still going to have a few.”

Yuusuke couldn’t keep from grinning when Kuwabara slammed back a full bottle in one massive gulp.  He tried to ignore the gibes coming from the soon to be intoxicated man and succeeded for all of three seconds.  Unwilling to be outdone, he guzzled a bottle of his own, fumbling with the remote to turn the satellite dish on.  After a brief battle concerning what channel it should be on, Yuusuke finally fried Kuwabara and set the station to wrestling before hiding the remote down his pants.  The larger man glared at him angrily and seemed to debate whether or not to go for the remote before deciding that it wasn’t worth it.

When the drinking began to turn towards more serous contests, Kurama carefully backed out of the room, concerned for his health.  The commentary was already getting more vulgar than he was used to and he had no wish for a nosebleed tonight.  He made it as far as the front door when a chill raced down his spine and froze him in place.  Emerald eyes barely had time to focus on the hurled weight before he was crushed into the door.  Kuwabara hopped off him immediately and raced back across the room.

            “Gimme that remote!”

Knowing that this could only get worse, Kurama peeled himself off of the wall and made a hasty retreat into the night.  He finally settled into a nearby tree to wait out the two still in the house.  For the moment, he was too tired to trek back to his own house but didn’t want to be anywhere near Kuwabara or Yuusuke for the moment.  In a few minutes, they would undoubtedly pass out and it would be safe for him to find a spare room to crash in.  He would have been happy enough to have slept in the tree had it not been so cold outside.

“You too?” Hiei said softly, his breath tickling the youko’s ear.

Yelping, Kurama leapt several feet in the air, landing awkwardly on the branch he had previously been on and glaring balefully at the little fire demon.  Huffing, he brushed himself off and leaned back against the main trunk once again.  He hated it when Hiei snuck up on him.  The little koorime shrugged insolently.

“Me too,” Kurama finally admitted, frowning at the window.  He could still see the two young men drinking themselves stupid.  It had been Kuwabara’s idea.  Yuusuke had gone along with the plan and bought the alcohol while everyone else had been sleeping in the living room.  Borrowing his mother’s car, seeing as to how she wouldn’t need it, drunk wherever she was, he had gotten at least ten gallons worth of sake.  Kurama still couldn’t figure out where he had gotten the money for it.  Now, their almighty leader and Kuwabara seemed to be engrossed in who could kill the most brain cells in the shortest amount of time.

            “Ahou.”

Kurama smiled at his friend, for once agreeing with the scathing comment.  “No kidding.  Don’t worry.  We’ll sneak in when they pass out.”

            “Hn.  Why not now?”

“Now?” Kurama asked blankly.  He peered through the window and shook his head.  The two had already left the living room and Kuwabara could be seen performing the time-honored pee-pee-dance in the hall as he waited on Yuusuke to vacate the bathroom.

He looked back at Hiei in askance only to find that the koorime was almost to the door.  Shrugging, he followed, not surprised when they saw that Kuwabara was too busy hopping up and down in place to notice them.  He was shocked, however, when Hiei paused by their massive supply and snagged two of the large jugs before heading back to an unoccupied room.  Kurama followed, closing the door behind them.

“Isn’t this Yuusuke’s room?” Kurama asked slowly, peering around.  He frowned slightly.  “He’ll be coming back here when he decides he drunk enough.”

“Hn.  I doubt it.  He’ll pass out in the living room at this rate.”

“Good point,” the redhead conceded, sitting on the bed beside the much smaller fire demon.  Hiei immediately passed one of the jugs to him and Kurama smiled.  So the koorime wanted to relax and forget about the day after all.  He just didn’t to be around the noise and the celebrative atmosphere.  The image of Hiei at a party, actually enjoying himself without blowing something up, was impossible to bring to mind.  It was simply too far out of his normal behavior to be possible.

“Hn.  Aren’t you going to drink anything, fox?”

Kurama jerked and grinned ruefully.  He had been so engrossed in his thoughts that he hadn’t noticed that Hiei was already partially into his jug of sake.  Popping the cork, he took a long drink and immediately choked.  Hiei blinked at him when he began coughing in earnest, desperately trying to get the burning alcohol out of his lungs.

            “Hn.  Stupid fox.”

A loud shouting match interrupted Kurama before he could retort.  They both frowned at the pieces of the argument they could make out.  Yuusuke and Kuwabara were fighting over the remote again and they both sounded extremely drunk.  For some reason, it was suddenly funny and Kurama chuckled softly.  Hiei looked at him strangely but remained silent.

“Shall we?” Kurama offered, holding his jug of sake up to his lips.  Hiei arched one eyebrow.

            “Hn.”

Even with the uncooperative grunt, Hiei lifted his jug as well.  On an unspoken signal, they began gulping steadily.  Kurama was the first to break off, gasping for breath and folding over as his vision went slightly out of whack.  He blinked in shock and squinted vaguely in his friend’s direction, unable to believe what he was seeing.  Hiei was smiling.  Not his customary smirk, but an honest smile.  A deep laugh rumbled from the fire demon’s chest a moment later, pausing only when Hiei took another large gulp of sake.  Kurama stared at him in shock for several seconds before he found his breath.

            “Um… what’s so funny?”

“You are, fox,” Hiei answered smoothly, his laughter returning.  “You’re drunk already.”

Kurama started to open his mouth to protest when he noticed that his vision wasn’t tracking properly and the room was swaying with his every movement.  He tried to brush his hair out of his face and accidentally poked himself in the eye.  His fingers confirmed what he suspected.  His cheeks were burning hot.  He almost decided to leave his hair in his face to hide his flushed cheeks before deciding that he liked the sound of Hiei’s laughter more than he cared for his pride.  Pushing his hair back, he managed to lose his balance completely and sagged partially off of the bed before Hiei caught him, now laughing madly.

A contented smile crept onto Kurama’s face when he regarded the koorime holding him up.  Laughing, honestly amused and relaxed, Hiei actually looked like a little boy.  If Kurama thought he could do it and get away with it, he would have said that very thing.  He suspected, though, that that would earn him a nasty death in the morning.  As it was, he couldn’t keep from giggling softly.  For once, Hiei didn’t seem to care or even realize that he was being laughed at.

Still laughing softly, Kurama deposited his empty jug of sake at the foot of the bed before flopping back.  He pursed his lips slightly.  When exactly had the bottle gotten empty?  He couldn’t recall.  Glancing over at Hiei, he discovered that the little koorime was peering at his empty jug with the same mystified expression.  Shrugging, the fire demon placed the second empty jug by the first and stood to leave the bed and room to Kurama.  However, he barely made it to his feet before losing his balance and flopping gracelessly back onto the bed.  Huffing in mock anger, he finally came to the conclusion that it was in his skull’s best interest if he stayed put.

After a brief battle for who got the blankets, which ultimately came down to a pillow fight that ended in a stalemate, they decided to call it a night.  Both too tired and drunk, they came to the mutual conclusion that it wouldn’t kill them to share a bed for the night, as long as no one snored.  Hiei made it perfectly clear that Kurama’s first snore would be his last.  His ultimatum was hard for Kurama to take seriously, though, seeing as how Hiei was more than slightly cross-eyed.  Sniffing slightly, Kurama slapped the light off with his rose whip, missing three times before hitting his target and thus leaving three holes in the wall, and flopped back to go to sleep.

Yuusuke staggered unsteadily down the hall, gripping the walls for support at every step.  He didn’t want to sleep on the floor and wake up with a stiff neck.  He couldn’t take the couch either.  Kuwabara was on the couch after having physically thrown him off of it and passing out.  Yuusuke swore loudly when he walked into a doorframe.  His own bed didn’t sound like such a bad idea anyways, assuming that he could get there in one piece.  Rubbing his bruised face, he fumbled the door open and staggered into the blessed darkness.  Pushing the door closed with one foot, he shrugged out of his shirt and discarded it on the floor, staggering to his bed where he promptly collapsed.  It took him several seconds to realize that it was already occupied.  Too drunk to think clearly, he froze.

The heavy weight thumping down on him jarred Kurama awake and he grumbled something uncomplimentary about elbows before jerkily pulling himself free and rolling over.  His flip in position suddenly placed him in a position perfectly sandwiched between the bed’s other two occupants.  He blinked, realizing blearily that there were too many bodies in the small twin sized bed.  His position suddenly became infinitely more embarrassing as his alcohol fuzzed mind cleared slightly to tell him where his hands and body were.

Hiei froze when an arm flopped easily across his waist and a warm form fitted tightly to his back.  His first reaction was to elbow the offending youko.  Cheeks flaring red, he realized that he couldn’t move with the redhead’s position.  Slender hips were pressed tightly to his rear and the arm across his waist ended with a long-fingered hand in a very compromising position.  He realized with a start that it wasn’t the youko’s fault either.  Behind the slim form, he could sense the more heavily muscled body of Yuusuke, whose legs were still tangled with Kurama’s from his initial flop onto the bed.  He felt fingers on the shoulder blade of the side he was lying on and concluded that Kurama was laying on Yuusuke’s arm after having reflexively moving away from the deadweight that had landed on him.  Kurama was completely trapped, and with him, so were Hiei and Yuusuke.

Kurama was absolutely frozen.  He was pressed up to Hiei’s back and Yuusuke to his own.  His hand… oh God… his hand was cupping Hiei’s sex.  If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, he could feel Yuusuke’s hips pressed to his backside as surely as his own were pressed to Hiei.

Suddenly, both Yuusuke and Hiei decided to move at the same time.  Hiei grabbed his wrist to pull his hand away at the same moment as Yuusuke tried to pull his arm free, completely unaware of what the smaller fire demon was doing.  His movement caused Kurama to flop directly onto Hiei, pushing the koorime onto his stomach and his groin hard into Kurama’s hand.  Both uttered identical squeaks.  Kurama jerked his hand away and tried to clamber off of his friend, unaware that his legs were still very much entangled with Yuusuke’s.  As a result, all three tumbled off of the bed into an undignified heap, Yuusuke at the bottom.  Kurama was sitting opposite him, their legs still tangled.  Hiei managed to end up in both of their laps at once, his hips in Yuusuke’s and his face in Kurama’s.

They pulled apart quickly and finally managed to completely untangle themselves from all embarrassing positioning.  Kurama was the first to move after that, spinning on his butt to look away from his two friends before they could see his raging hard-on or the lust in his eyes.  His humiliation disappeared in a flash with two simple realizations.  When Hiei had been in his hand, he had been hardening as well.  Now, just a moment ago, his leg had brushed against Yuusuke’s groin and the hardness there.

Swallowing thickly, Kurama did the most difficult thing he had ever done in his life.  He turned around and placed one hand on Hiei’s shoulder.  The koorime jerked slightly but didn’t pull away.  Seeing this, Kurama allowed his eyes to flicker towards the throbbing erection between the fire demon’s legs.  Breath catching in his throat, Kurama slid his hand into Hiei’s hair and pulled the smaller form to him.  Hiei managed to squeak in protest when smooth lips closed over his.  He tried to pull back when a tongue slipped into his mouth, exploring slowly and vying with his own tongue for dominance.

Yuusuke watched them for several seconds with a slack jaw before moving forward to wrap his arms around Hiei from behind.  This caused him to squeak a second time and Kurama to jump.  He wondered if the koorime had bitten the youko.  There was really no way to know since Kurama didn’t relinquish his hold on the smaller man’s lips.  Tired of sitting still and simply watching, he slipped his hands up to Hiei’s chest and let his fingers roam aimlessly for a moment, enjoying the feel of the smooth cloth under his fingers and the rock hard muscles beneath.  His searching fingers quickly located the fire demon’s nipples and he massaged them gently through the cloth, eliciting a moan from the captured koorime.

Encouraged by the noise, Yuusuke grabbed the hem of Hiei’s robe and slowly pulled the garment free.  Kurama pulled back just long enough to allow the garment to be removed, shrugging free of his own shirt and jacket in that mere second.  He quickly pressed forward again, allowing one of the hands previously around Hiei’s shoulders to roam across the smooth planes of his chest and stomach.  He paused at the top of the black slacks before slipping his hand inside and gripping the hardness there.  One of Yuusuke’s hands joined his almost immediately, bringing another moan from the small figure.

Kurama and Yuusuke worked flawlessly together with what they had effectively captured between them.  They alternated who was stroking his shaft and fondling his balls, alternately kissing each other and Hiei, who seemed to have lost his voice.  Yuusuke dropped his mouth the base of Hiei’s neck to gently nip the skin there, his free hand alternating between toying with the two hardened nipples.  Kurama settled for reclaiming the sweet mouth in front of him, his free hand snaking behind his prize to fiercely grip Yuusuke’s sex.  At the touch, their leader gasped, unintentionally leaving a hickey on the pale flesh of Hiei’s throat.  He quickly freed both of his hands and easily lifted both of the slender men in front of him, depositing them gently on the bed with Kurama on top.

Clambering onto the bed after them, he untangled Hiei’s legs from the sheets and began unlacing the koorime’s pants.  He reached for Kurama’s belt, but the youko beat him to it, easily shucking his remaining clothing without ever losing his position on top of the pale form beneath him.  Yuusuke watched him fondle Hiei’s manhood with interest even as he stripped of his own pants, tossing them off to the side to tangle with the loose clothing already strewn about the room.

Noticing that Kurama was beginning to grind his hips with Hiei’s at an increasingly frantic pace, he fumbled to his dresser and ran his hands across the top, his fingers closing on a small bottle of lotion.  He hurried back to the bed as quickly as his inebriated mind would allow his balance to function, quickly coating one of his hands.  He pulled Kurama’s hips back slightly, ignoring the protesting huff coming from the youko, and wrapped his lotioned hand around Hiei’s shaft.  At the direct touch, Hiei choked out a command into Kurama’s mouth and began to squirm meaningfully.

With the remaining lotion, he coated his own shaft and pulled Hiei’s legs apart with his free hand.  He pressed his greased hand into the pale cleft before him, smiling wryly when Hiei jerked and choked on Kurama’s tongue trying to cry out.  His breathing was growing erratic around the mouth still clogging his own and anything he might have said was completely muffled.  He trembled slightly when Yuusuke slid one slicked digit past the tight ring of muscle.  For his part, Yuusuke froze, marveling at the intense burning heat that was held by a fire demon.  The koorime squirmed violently when a second digit was added to the constricting heat.  He absolutely screamed into Kurama’s mouth when Yuusuke pushed a third into him, carefully stretching him out before proceeding.

Kurama didn’t bother to stretch himself.  He merely shifted his position slightly to straddle Hiei’s hips and lowered himself onto the fiery shaft.  He had to pause halfway down, his back becoming rigid at the scorching heat that was pulsing inside him.  Steeling his nerves, he lowered himself into a fully seated position, his lips never leaving Hiei’s mouth.

Yuusuke withdrew his fingers and gently lifted the pale legs to rest on his hips before pushing forward slowly into the scorching heat.  Hiei writhed beneath him fitfully, pinned by the weight of the two larger men.  With a final shove, Yuusuke fully sheathed himself and paused, waiting for his lover to adjust.  He released his hold on Hiei’s leg and wrapped his right arm around Kurama to grip the youko’s neglected sex in his hand.  Kurama gasped and arched his back, freeing Hiei’s mouth.  The koorime panted for air for several seconds, still mostly suffocated by the redhead’s attention.

“Harder, Yuusuke,” Kurama cried softly over his shoulder.  Yuusuke complied, tightening his grip and pumping the sex in his palm more fiercely.  He kept his pace steady, slamming his hand down on the youko while pushing into the koorime.  Kurama matched him, raising and lowering his hips with Yuusuke’s hand.  Their loud moans filled the air, covering the soft cries coming from Hiei.

“Yamete,” Hiei whimpered.  He tried to pull away, pinned beneath the weight of two much larger men.  His arms were uselessly pinned behind his back from when Yuusuke dropped him on the bed, keeping him from fighting back.  His cries fell on deaf ears, the two men atop him too far gone to hear his pleading sobs.  “Onegai.  Yamete.”

Kurama climaxed first, deaf to his words.  His muscles clamped down on Hiei, pulling him to his own unwanted completion.  His unsteady spasm pulled Yuusuke to his finish.  Both Yuusuke and Kurama slumped forward, spent.  It was only then that they heard the steady litany of whispered words from an almost catatonic Hiei.

            “O-onegai.  Ya-yamete.  Yamete!  On-onegai…”

With the speed and agility only given a youko, Kurama was off of his friend, Yuusuke only an instant behind him.  The redhead pulled the limp form into his arms and buried his face into the pale neck, whispering endless apologies.  Yuusuke sat back in shock, staring at Hiei’s slack face and tear-filled eyes as the broken koorime babbled numbly into Kurama’s hair.

            “Onegai…”

Slowly, a single tear began to slide from each of Hiei’s eyes.  Sense returned to his gaze and he pushed away sharply, disappearing through the window into the night.  Yuusuke stared after him in shock, wordless apologies spilling from his heart as he staggered to the window.  He dimly heard Kurama’s unsteady weeping behind him.

            “Hiei, I’m so sorry…”

Kurama sat easily in a tree, absently stroking a stray cat in his lap as he read his book.  Around him, he could hear only the gentle rustling of the leaves and the rumbling purr of the small beast sprawled across his legs.  Normally, he would have been relaxed, completely at peace.  But not today.

Frowning, the redhead shifted his gaze from the page of the book he had been staring at for the last hour to the area around him.  It was peaceful.  In fact, it was too peaceful.  His head drooped miserably, tears brimming at the corners of his eyes.  He had no right to this peace.  The cat in his lap mewled up at him in question.  He wanted to die for his mistake.  He had no right.  He curled his arms around his head as an unbidden question came to mind.  Would he ever see Hiei again?

His answer came in a flash of shadows.  The feline in his lap scrambled to escape, gouging holes in Kurama’s legs as he did so.  He raised a tear-filled gaze to meet the distraction that had cost him half of the skin on his thighs and he drew back slightly.  A hard ruby gaze met his teary emerald.  He opened his mouth to apologize again when Hiei’s hands shot forward.  For a moment, Kurama thought that the fire demon intended to throttle him.  He held perfectly still, blinking in shock when he felt fingers pinching his earlobe fiercely followed by a stinging pain.  He tried to apologize to Hiei again, but the smaller man was already gone.

Confused, he raised one hand to his throbbing earlobe.  His eyes widened when he felt a small earring hanging from the freshly pierced flesh.  His fingers traced the small gem he could feel dangling almost an inch below his left ear, the cold jewel grazing the edge of his jaw.  He pulled it into the furthest reaches of his peripheral vision, emerald flickering back at him from a gold setting.

Still in shock, he dropped down from the tree and headed home, thinking.  His fingers endlessly traced the small earring Hiei had left him.  For a koorime to leave him a tear gem was a rare gift indeed, one he didn’t feel he deserved.

Keiko glared balefully at Yuusuke who averted his gaze once again.  Ever since last night after they had rescued Yukina, he refused to say anything or look her in the eyes.  She knew that something was wrong but couldn’t tell what.  He wouldn’t tell her.

Yuusuke stared at the ground as though it held the answers to the universe and silently cursed himself for getting drunk and not thinking things through.  He had thought that what they had done was consensual just because Hiei hadn’t said anything.  Hadn’t been able to say anything.  Keiko screamed in his ear and he nearly jumped out of his skin.  He had forgotten she was there again.  Sighing, he looked away once more, unable to meet her harsh gaze.  It would have been bad enough had he just cheated on her, but what he did was far worse.  He had raped one of his best friends.

He was drawn out of his contemplation when a small black projectile slammed into him from the side, pinning him to the wall of a nearby building.  Blinking, he looked down to see Hiei’s ruby gaze focused on him.  Hiei’s hand shot out and Yuusuke closed his eyes, certain that the koorime was about to deck him.  His eyes shot open when he felt a sharp pain in his left earlobe.  Before he could open his mouth to question the fire demon or give the apology he had been agonizing over all day, Hiei was gone again.

“What was that about?” Keiko asked, placing one hand on his shoulder.  Her eyes narrowed and she reached forward with one hand to touch something near his jaw line.

Yuusuke gasped when whatever she touched shifted and bounced on his jaw, pulling painfully at his ear.  Reflexively, his hand shot to the side of his head where he quickly discovered a dangling earring.  He pushed away from Keiko and sprinted to the nearest store window, ignoring her protests.  His fingers brushed the earring again as he gaped at his reflection.  A perfect sapphire that exactly matched his eyes was set in stunning silver hung from a tiny chain that attached the gem to his ear.  He pushed his earlobe forward carefully, his eyes widening when he saw that the earring was a single piece, neither possessing loop or a clasp.  He had no way to take the earring off without ripping through the tender flesh of his ear.

“What is that?” Keiko asked, catching up to him.  Yuusuke blinked at her numbly before shrugging and turning away to be by himself for a little while.  He needed to think.  Tear gems were precious.  What was Hiei thinking?  He didn’t deserve this.

“A gift,” he called absently over his shoulder.

Hiei leaned against a tree, watching as Kurama staggered away unsteadily, his book lying forgotten at the base of the tree he had been sitting in.  Every few steps, he would raise his hand to the earring dangling from his lobe, running his fingers delicately over the intricate work.  Soon, he disappeared from sight and Hiei turned to look for his next target.

Yuusuke was pathetically simply to find and tag, even easier than Kurama had been.  He pursed his lips in wonderment, unable to believe that their fearless leader looked so badly staggered about having his ear pierced.  Huffing angrily, he turned away when Yuusuke continued to stare at his reflection in amazement.  They would be angry when they found out, he was certain.  But at the same time, he had tried to warn them.

At first, he had remained still, thinking that the two would break away after some heavy petting and kissing.  When he was deposited on the bed, he had been too drunk to fight back properly and hadn’t managed to free his friends in time.  A koorime mated for life.  But with two different people?  He sighed again.  If only he had had enough sense last night to prevent that.  He didn’t mind so much being with Kurama and Yuusuke, but he was worried what they would think.  Now… well, now things were going to get interesting depending on their reactions.  He smiled and shook his head.

“Hn.  I wonder what they’re doing tonight.”
