Attention Fanfiction.Net Friends:
Since many of my readers from other fandoms may not be familiar with Earthian yet still wish to enjoy the following story fully, I have composed a spoiler-laden introduction to the OVAs as they pertain to the fic. If you are already familiar with Yun Kouga's masterpiece, feel free to skip this part and proceed directly to the first chapter, "A Home Torn Apart by Conflict". If, however, you've never seen the anime or it's been awhile, a few minutes reading this might be well worth your time since it will help explain a good many things. Also, at the end of the introduction is an URL for a great website that has not only screen captures from the series but additional commentary and reviews. I highly recommend checking out the pictures from OVA 3, "Angelic Destroyer" to see the three wondrous angelic bishounen who are the main characters in "Turning Point".
Thanks!

Welcome to the World of Earthian!
~ + ~ The following is a brief introduction to Yun Kouga's incredibly beautiful world of Earthian as it pertains to *this* fic and is *not* intended as a complete or balanced overview of this magnificent alternate reality. Please note that the following summarization of relevant episodes from the anime as well as the fic contain *spoilers* for much of the OVA series. The purpose of this introduction is to make "Turning Point" accessible to readers who have not seen the show and will hopefully encourage some of them to seek out the DVD from the Anime Works division of Media Blasters which includes far more details that are well worth enjoying. As a final word of caution, this introduction and the fic it is written for as well as the anime and manga are examples of the *shonen ai/yaoi* genre as specifically included by the series creator herself and therefore include references to male/male relationships. If you don't care to read this type of story, please seek your reading material elsewhere. ~ + ~
For millennia, the people of Earth have unwittingly been under the watchful eye of the angels of Eden who refer to the humans as "earthians". The angels have watched with growing horror as the earthians have polluted their planet, murdered their brethren, abused their children, and allowed unspeakable terrors to be unleashed in the form of nuclear weapons used to establish dominance between rival nations. When the earthians chose to begin placing destructive mechanisms into space, the angels of Eden decided it was time to determine whether or not the human race could be allowed to survive if they posed a threat to the rest of the galaxy.
To make this determination, they sent representatives to Earth to see for themselves how the earthians behaved on a more individual basis. The physiology of the angels of Eden allowed the representatives chosen to move undetected amongst the earthians since their wings remained hidden within themselves unless called forth, an action which had an unexplained companion effect of causing their hair to lengthen dramatically. When fully revealed in their natural forms, it was easy to see why they were called angels and whether or not some visitors from Eden had come to Earth during biblical days remains a tantalizing possibility which would explain a great deal.
Each team of alien observers included a "positive" and a "negative" angel so that both the good and the bad would be taken into consideration equally. One such pair was composed of Chihaya, a petite, compassionate, black-haired, violet-eyed youth with ebony wings instead of the normal white of his race matched with Kagetsuya, a muscular, vengeful, blond, sea-green-eyed being with huge snow white wings. Chihaya's natural optimism and love for all creatures made him the perfect "positive" angel whereas Kagetsuya's pessimism and distrust allowed him to see the inherent evil that lurks beneath the surface of so many beings all too easily.
Together, these two traveled the globe observing and occasionally being drawn into the conflicts of those around them.
One fateful night in Hong Kong, Chihaya was drawn to the side of Taki, a genetically engineered biohumanoid who was the product of the insane yet talented Dr. Ashino. After many twists and turns, this meeting resulted in Chihaya himself becoming the captive and victim of Ashino who took various samples from him and performed cruel experiments upon the gentle angel. Kagetsuya, fiercely protective of his partner, an angel whom he was falling in love with at the time, eventually freed Chihaya but not before Taki's "sister", a biohumanoid named Takako, died protecting him. The laboratory was destroyed yet some of the samples taken from Chihaya were preserved.
Months later, after many trying experiences which pushed them closer and closer together, Chihaya and Kagetsuya, now lovers, were sent to face the evil Dr. Ashino to rescue a pair of angels who are mere children whom the scientist is cruelly interrogating. In the course of rescuing them, Chihaya encountered the fruits of Ashino's mad genius, the biohumanoid-angel composite ironically named "Messiah" who had been built by combining DNA similar to what created Taki and Takako with Chihaya's. Messiah was a black-winged, dark green-haired, amber-eyed, being of almost limitless destructive capability who had been given neither love nor compassion until the day he saw Chihaya smile at him and in that moment, he felt an overwhelming bond form between them which would cause great sorrow later.
Frustrated by his inability to free Messiah before the laboratory complex came down around them, Chihaya obeyed Kagetsuya's command to leave yet he spent days if not weeks mourning his apparent death in the fiery conflagration that occurred. Chihaya's obsession with the memory of the synthetic angel became problematic and drove the two lovers apart, interfering with their lovemaking and leading the violet-eyed youth into a state of acute depression.
After unexpectedly discovering that Messiah was still alive thanks to a news broadcast about a conflict at a US Naval Base in Japan, Chihaya rushed blindly after him only to see him apparently die yet again. As things continued to deteriorate between Chihaya and Kagetsuya, Messiah himself was experiencing a rebirth. Free of the control of the insane Ashino, the amber-eyed being sought a place among the humans and unfortunately chose to become a part of a criminal organization. His inevitable reunion with Chihaya brought the conflict within the pair of angelic lovers to a head and in a seedy bar somewhere in Tokyo, Kagetsuya and Messiah argued over the petite angel's affections.
At this point the timeline for the story diverges radically from that of the anime, therefore no further summary will be offered.
Within the continuity of "Turning Point", it is presumed that Chihaya was able to convince the two taller angelic beings to live with him in the hopes that they could form a supportive structure that would allow them all to be happy and find a new life together. The continuity of the anime is radically different and should be enjoyed without further spoilers offered here. Regarding the continuity in the manga, the author is sadly ignorant, yet he presumes it is richly presented and is filled with the same glorious angst, romance, action, adventure, and science fiction which are included in the four OVAs.
~ + ~ Site for Images and More Objective Summaries of the OVAs ~ + ~
Since a picture is worth a thousand words and screen captures are even better, the author is deeply grateful to Emeryl Tekutsu who has graciously invited those who wish to share the vision of Earthian at [ http://4sywr.tripod.com/ ] a web page dedicated to any number of wonderful things. To find images taken directly from the series, chose the "site help" heading at the left side of the welcome page then follow the prompts to the Earthian shrine. Excellent images of Chihaya and Kagetsuya are abundant throughout and Messiah is shown in the images for "Angelic Destroyer" and "Final Battle". Please be cautioned that the images belong to the site owner and since screen captures are extremely time consuming to offer please respect Emeryl's rights and do not take them for use elsewhere.
Emeryl's site also offers brief summaries of the OVAs including "Fallen Angel" which has been virtually ignored for the purposes of both this introduction and the fic to follow. There is also an amusing sidelight within the site that focuses on an angel who hasn't been mentioned here named Miyagi who is a classic underutilized character with such great potential it's a shame this author doesn't have time to write a fic about him, too.
Words of thanks and appreciation for sharing all of these wonderful images from and words about Earthian with you can be sent directly to Emeryl at [ StilletoC@hotmail.com ].
~ + ~ Final Thoughts Before the Fic Begins ~ + ~
I sincerely hope that this introduction has whetted your appetite not only for my story but for the anime itself. While my main purpose in writing this fairly lengthy and sadly spoiler-laden piece was to simply allow a broader audience to enjoy not only my own story but others at fanfiction.net, I also hoped to lead more fans of shonen ai/yaoi to a truly wonderful body of work. If you enjoy imagining physical relationships between consenting bishounen in fanfiction, I believe you will enjoy watching this if for no reason other than an all too brief bedroom scene between Chihaya and Kagetsuya which leads to a classic case of a frustrated seme taking a cold shower scene. Personally, I initially found the ending of the anime frustrating and incomplete, yet over time I began to realize that it opens the door to so many wonderful fanfiction writing opportunities that it helped to inspire my muses and I am now grateful for it.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope it helps clarify a few things as I offer my first fic for the glorious world of Earthian.
Enjoy the Angst and Romance!
